The Idea:
We join forces to design a fantastic world. I'll set the initial prompts, and then we flesh out an imaginary world through 2D artwork. Landscape, architecture, costumes, creatures: you're encouraged to contribute as much as you'd like to.
The End Product:
A big pile of concept art. Unlike other similar projects, I don't want this to result in a finished, published, object. Instead, let's make a bunch of paintings for the fun of doing so.
The Schedule:
I'm busy. We're all busy. With this in mind, the schedule would be totally open-ended. Ideally we'll use an open platform (deviantart group, flickr.. etc) that allows art to be uploaded at your own pace. No weekly prompts, no due dates, just an ongoing experiment.
Who Can Participate?
Anyone. Concept art is more fun when done on a team, so my idea is to make this as inclusive as possible. Ideally we'll have a mix of beginners and more experienced artists.
Who Judges It?
No one. I'll create the initial guidelines, and then everyone is invited to contribute. No art will be excluded unless it breaks the rules (nudity, etc.)
What's The Point?
Ctrl+Paint has done a great job bringing together artists who are learning to digital paint. Many of you share an interest in concept art. From my experience, the best way to learn concept art is by working on a team. Ideas are shared, unexpected things happen. The problem with most teams is that they exclude beginners. As an experiment, I'd love to see what happens if we don't exclude anyone.
Currently this is just an idea. If it's something you'd be interested in, speak up in the comments. If there's enough interest I'll move forward with the plan - and begin clarifying the details. Thanks, guys!
Note: I posted this a few days ago via twitter to judge the initial interest. Now I've put it on the blog, and would love to keep hearing comments. There are many details to be worked out, but I'm very excited.
